RAINY BAGUIO

Miracles are a retelling in small letters
of the very same story which is written across
the whole world in letters too large
for some of us to see.
~ C.S. Lewis

Once upon a moment in rainy Baguio,
I walked down a garden patch
and the petite anthurium flowers
delightfully beamed at me.
A lovely freshness filled morning that was!

I wandered in an old bathroom and I found this
old tree tapestry hanging by its window.

Maybe looking forlorn, wet and moldy
from the constant drizzles by the window sill
but its earth colors and the image
of an old growth pine tree is worth the snapshot
and memory about Baguio's hand woven Arts and Craft.

In a public utility jeep,
I was shivering wet and cold from the rain.
I felt miserable of the sudden heavy downpour as
I am without an umbrella.

At the corner sat a little boy singing his heart out, unmindful of the rain.
He caught me in his own world and I started to melt and warm up.
His voice was a soothing lullaby.
Simple miracles happen – such as our own rainy moments
warmed up by the innocence of a song.

Rainy Baguio with its buildings, busy sidewalks,
and its ruins are shelters for people's busy shuffling,
their coming and going – as their lives go on,
 rain or shine.

Nothing wastes more energy than worrying about the rain.
In Baguio, it rains anyway.
Cover your head, then go.

Live
a life of
 serenity:
welcome
the
drizzles,
dance
in the
rain.

person
has the
right to
rain on
your
dreams."

From the car, I saw two school girls who were dripping wet.

They took cover in a waiting shed to wait for the rain to stop.
They removed their shoes and some of their soggy belongings.
Then they started to play. They were on their own.

The car moved on and I can't help to worry. Unaccompanied,
anything could happen to little girtls in an isolated place like that.
What else could a concerned mother do... but pray.
Rain, rain go away.. come again another day.

The sayote vines love the rain and the banana plants do, too.
It is available anytime of the year.
No one goes hungry in Rainy Baguio.

The rain washes away the dirty smears
from smog emissions and trash.
It is nature’s way to bathe the city,
but no matter how strong the rain,
it is not enough to clean the place
of its litter and graffiti.

"Like a welcome summer rain,
humor may suddenly cleanse and cool
the earth, the air and you."

~Langston Hughes

"Into each life some rain must fall."
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Clouds come floating into my life,
no longer to carry rain or usher storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky.

"I have played in rain before.
I have played in wind before.
I have played in cold before, but not all put together.
They were the hardest conditions I ever played in."

LOVE & LETTING GO

"Always remember that the time to love is short." Love is a gift. It may come in fleeting moments. It is a seed that comes through our senses, nurtured by the thumping of the heart. It gnaws the soul for nourishment, and bears fruit in our spirit. Such other trivial passions would just wither in time. But when you find love, savor it.     Opening up one's self to the universe with it milieu of probabilities is liberating. There may be a hundred and one offerings. But we have to choose which one. To be, or not to be. To hold on, or to let go. Holding on meant getting stuck in one's comfort zone which may get bereft of insecurities and convert to pain. But if it is not for you, then letting go is sweet. You get washed up with myriads of feelings. It is like a beam of sunlight hitting a prism. From there would sprang all the colors of the rainbow. It makes one really happy with all its lightness ...

SUNSETS & The Little Prince

Sunsets do take my breath away sometimes. They come different each time. What is mesmerizing is when they slowly fade away into the dark night. Like Anais Nin, I look at sunsets and remember The Little Prince in his tiny planet. He is in his own world, teetering at the edge, counting his sunsets... It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. Below are photos of beautiful sunsets. CULTURAL VIGNETTE : A tale on the Traditional Costume of the Isneg Tribe of Apayao Province in the Philippines

"Most people think Time is like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction. They are wrong. Sit down and I will tell you a tale like none that you have ever heard." ~Yuri Lowenthal Long ago, in the northernly end of the Cordillera central mountains, lies a province named Apayao. Here, a mighty river, savagely rough and deep, courses through steep mountain gorges down to the valleys and plains, straight to the Philippine Sea. This river, so blue in the mid-morning sun, is the life force for a tribe in Apayao called ISNEG. The Isnegs lived isolated in these expansive mountains with  stunning scenery, adorned with small hills and steep cliffs along both sides of the river. A labyrinth of valleys and foothills, embraced by tropical forests and Savanna grass, led them to their paradise. To reach this haven, they navigated for hours on personalized bamboo rafts or small boats, then traversed long trails to their homes. The people cherished their l...
